Public Art Challenge - currently in development

A new way to procure art for public spaces

What is the problem we aim to solve?

Public buildings and cities spend money on art. Often, procurement of art for such clients is done in a closed way, favouring already established artists.

Art procurement tends to be a market run by a close network of insiders, making it difficult for talented new artists to get recognised and break through.

Art Challenges present a great way to find new art, select it fairly, do it in an open way that involves the public and create an exciting competition with a live final event linked to a local Art Expo.

A few public entities have already began exploring such approaches, demonstrating the readiness of the art market for open competitions. The German cities of Jena and Munich have already started open competitions that award prize money for the best submitted art.
